Boothroyd Relaxation Area

The brief – To transform the front play area into a relaxation area consisting of cocoon nests, hammock beds, the ‘chill room’, a beach hut shed and a storytelling corner, which could be used by both students and teachers to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Our approach- The team at Geckops formulated a brief in conjunction with Boothroyd and developed and designed a ‘Relaxation Zone’ which with it’s ‘sail’ areas, seating areas, artificial grass and conservatory area, really did provide an inspirational area for students to relax and do their schoolwork. Particularly attention was given to disability and wheelchair access, ensuring the space was accessible for all.

The outdoor area around the back of the school, which was another project done at Boothroyd Academy, was further developed to include a Bee Hotel and Planting Zones, which are used regularly to teach the students about growing and nurturing their own produce.

Handwash areas were also developed and installed by Geckops to ensure health and safety and Geckops provide full grounds maintenance to ensure the area is kept well kept throughout the year.

The result – An inspirational and well used outdoor area, which enhances the students learning, and allows them to relax in between lessons and on their breaks so they can play and work together.
